Walk to School Day & Morning Tea

On Friday, May 20, Winthrop Primary School will celebrate National Walk Safely to School Day and hold its first 2022 whole school assembly.
If your child will be walking/riding/scooting to school on the day or you would like to attend the morning tea after the assembly, please register by 18 May on:
National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual event when all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
In recognition of this day, Winthrop Primary School, is encouraging parents and carers to walk to school with your child and along the way role model safe pedestrian behaviours such as the Stop, Look, Listen and Think procedure when crossing the road.
Live too far to walk the entire way to school? Why not drive to a nearby park or Winthrop Village and then walk the rest of the way? Or, even ride your bike or scooter?
On that morning, collect stickers from our friendly ushers as you enter the school. If they are not available at the entries, please collect the stickers from the stations indicated below. Retain the back of the stickers as they double as raffle tickets. Lucky numbers will win cool prizes after the assembly.
Snacks will be served between 8:15-8:35am. To avoid disappointments, please ensure your children arrive promptly as food will not be served past that timeframe. Children need to be in their classes and be ready for assembly at the normal time.
Winthrop Primary’s P&C, Brownes, and Winthrop’s IGA Supermarket, are generously supplying us with these snacks:
• Brownes 300mL Chill (berry, banana, chocolate milk)
• Brownes yoghurt pouches
• Blueberry, banana, choc chip muffins
• Uncut apples and mandarins
Some items are limited in number so they will be given on a first-in-first-served system.
Volunteers who serve food will be following hygiene guidelines to minimise COVID risks. To allow for sufficient social distancing, food stations will be available in these 3 outdoor areas:
• Undercover basketball area between A and B Block
• Near the Pre Primary at the front of the school
• The bike rack near the canteen undercover area
Hot drinks can be purchased, at your own cost, from the coffee van parked at the oval from 8:00–10:30am.
Alternatively, free tea and instant coffee are available in the undercover basketball area between A and B Blocks before and after the assembly. To minimise rubbish on the day, please bring your own travel cup. Limited number of disposable cups (without lids) will be available.
