NAIDOC Week: ‘For Our Elders’

In recognition of this year’s NAIDOC theme, ‘For Our Elders’ we would like to celebrate and recognise the elders in our Winthrop community, be it grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties, or significant others by hosting an “Elder’s Afternoon”.
We wish to invite elders from our school community to visit on Friday 4th August from 1:15pm- 3:00pm
Our aim is to give the children an opportunity to meet with elders from the community, learn from their stories and experiences, and from doing this, gain a deeper understanding from those you can tell us stories from the past.
On arrival, please come to your child’s classroom and bring with you some tales from your childhood to share with a small group of children. Feel free to bring special item, photos, favourite book, or memorabilia to share.
As a token of our appreciation, we wish to end the day with an afternoon tea and chat in the library from 2:15pm.
We look forward to our community members sharing their generational wisdom and adding their experiences to our educational program.
To assist with our organisation, if you would like to take part and share your stories and or memorabilia from your childhood with a small group of students, please let your teacher know by Monday July 24th.
